Star Wars Trilogy – Movies
6 April 2023Honestly, before I even go any further, it must be said that this is just going to be me fangirling about The Last of Us HBO series, so if you are here for a “fair” review, you might get snippets, but that is about all. Truth.
Spoiler Warning here.
Let me start with literally a list of things I adored, in no real particular order honestly:
- The opening sequences of the first two episodes where they explain more about the outbreak and you get to see a different place in the world – I think it made it so different from the game in its own right.
- I really enjoyed the way they showed the infection with the old lady, hella terrifying; then how the scene in the truck was exactly from the game, made me realise how amazing this was going to be. Also, Sarah. damn. [tears]
- Anna. Torv. She is the most incredible. wow, just everything about her episodes was fantastic. I got super emotional been though I knew that she was going to die she died in the game, but I saw Anna and I hoped haha. [cried]
- I absolutely loved the episode with Bill and Frank – I thought that it was a fantastic change from the game. I thought Bill’s character in the game was a little gruff, I mean I missed the interaction between Bill and Ellie, but honestly, for that episode, you can keep it. [cried in this one too]
- The fourth episode was back to the action in the sense that we saw the ambush scene (which in the game was in Pittsburgh, but this was in Kansas City – I don’t mind the change in listening to the Podcast of the show apparently it is because where they were filming in Canada looked more like Kansas City and it made the journey seem longer, so okay with it) I thought the scene with Bryan – I think his name was… boy that was a lot, I think that is when you really start to realise how difficult it is to live in this “world”. And my home girl Melanie Lynskey was honestly so scary as Kathleen. Bravo.
- Episode 5: Introduction of Henry and Sam, I thought was brilliant. Loved seeing Jeffery Pierce as such a hard character (he voiced Tommy in the game, for anyone who didn’t know). The Bloater, holy shit, well actually lemme back up, the moment of hesitation then all the infected ran out, was like oh shiiiiiit. I also liked that they changed the Sam-infected scene where Ellie tried to help him, made it so much more emotional when Henry killed him then himself. [Guess what, yup, I cried]
- Episode 6 was just one of the best ones from a storytelling perspective, we see Joel having panic attacks – super different to the game, but I loved it. Pedro Pascal stans demand he gets an Emmy for the monologue in this. Holy shit. [I am not classifying this as crying, I welled up, no tears spilt, this is my hill]
- Episode 7, straight off the bat I knew this was going to be a rollercoaster ride cause the DLC was one of my favourites, and then guess what, I cried.
- Episode 8, End of the world and the scary thing is the creepy man who has a “following” – naturally. David… you nasty, but amazing work from the actor. Emmy for Bella thank you.
- Finale: It was the end we were all expecting, but that does not mean it was not beautiful. The best addition is Ashley Johnson playing Ellie’s mom. That… was perfection [definitely one for the tear tally]. Then Joel just going absolute PlayStation mode on them guys.
All in all, to me, this was pure perfection, I would not change a since thing about it.
9.0/10 on IMDB (as of the time of writing)
