Hosting the Superbowl 2024
21 February 2024A good few years ago, in 2019, the old wife and I decided that February in the UK truly sucked and we wanted to find some sort of sunny place. Having looked into many options, we decided on Lisbon seeing it was both of our first time to Portugal as well. Why not? Apparently when we arrived according to our taxi driver, we had missed a week of some of the worst weather he had seen and we were in a great patch of weather coming up too.
As usual we started by unpacking our bags and one of the memories I have was I packed two left shoes, so I had to stick to takkies (trainers) for the entire holiday then shockingly we went to find a drink. Lisbon is a stunner of a city, with some massive hills, but there are trams, or you could walk like we did.
Seeing as this was quite a few years ago, I am not entirely sure of the order we did things, but let me tell you my highlights.
Lisbon’s Winter Sun Highlights (Pippa and Kate edition):
1. Belém Tower:
Gorgeous stop, I recommend doing the red bus to it as it is rather far away, but absolutely worth it.
2. Praça do Comércio:
Really pretty place, but we found all day Mojitos for 5 Euros… so we stayed there all day… and had some beer 10/10 would recommend
3. Lisboa Tu e Eu 2 (Lisbon You and Me 2):
Leading on from the all day Mojitos, we decided we were hungry and went to possibly one of the best meals I have had, if only I remembered it more haha, I remember just ordering a ton fo seafood and it was incredible as was the wine. But wow was I not sober when we left.

4. Timeout Market:
Timeout market – gorgeous historic market Hall that offers a plethora of food and drink choices with casual bench dining and live music.
A perfect place to go after drinking all day and having a long snooze… so I hear.
5. Sintra
Hiking up to the National Palace in Sintra despite the numerous tuk-tuks whizzing past us whilst my wife cursed my name.
Eating my body weight in pasteis de nata several times a day.

In Lisbon, February blues is kinda a lie… I highly recommend going if you are wanting to get out of the gloom and into the sun, pack a light coat and some walking shoes as there is just so much to see.
