Hogwarts Legacy was the first game I got on my PS5 and let me start with the fact that the graphics in this game are top-notch! Let me start at the beginning, where you create your character and I decided to create and name my guy Paul… Paul ended up having the least exciting name in the whole of Hogwarts, no wonder he left as though he had to constantly save his friends and save the day. Poor Paul.
I think the thing I loved the most about this game was when you were in Hogwarts, that was just *Italian Chef Kiss* from the moment you get back to Hogwarts after the opening scene, that to me was everything I had ever wanted, I constantly ran around the castle never taking the floor powder fast travel (can we talk about how annoying that chick is every time you walk past her? my lord) all the easter eggs that I could find I did and loved every minute of it. I also adored going to Hogsmeade, a fantastic addition to what people already know – from the books and the movies. The Forbidden Forrest was also amazing, really gave you that sense of foreboding. The rest of the area was also well done, but not my favourite in comparison to Hogwarts.
It had a decent storyline – was it the best storyline, no, but I enjoyed it when I was able to make Paul sassy, so that sparked joy. The side quests were interesting and the students you did them with were interesting in their own ways with their own stories. What did you do with Sebastian? That quest was hella dark. I enjoyed Nattys quests a lot as she also was a very fleshed-out character and Poppy’s quest with the dragon was epic.
In the beginning, I liked Fig, but then I felt he was starting to do that typical relationship thing where he was “we” ing what I had clearly done by myself – get the memory yourself next time bro. So didn’t dislike him, just don’t take my credit man.
I will be honest, I am going to rate this game highly mostly because of the nostalgia associated with it, there was a video on TikTok, cannot remember who it was, but they did a video game to book comparison when you go into the prefects’ bathroom and honestly it was spot on which make me shriek in excitement.
I really enjoyed this game, the combat alone was epic, switching between all the different spells (I did not use the unforgivable curses to be fair) – not the game for you if you are scared of Spiders however. Mate there are a lot.
