Mass Effect Legendary Edition

7 December 2022

I know I did a review of the original series but I mostly just wanted to talk about how the changes and the additions to Mass Effect Legendary are amazing.

I never bought all the DLCs for Mass Effect 3, as honestly, I was being cheap and didn’t want to spend the money. When I heard that this was coming out I was seriously excited because I knew that it offered everything wrapped neatly in a bow. Then the second hammer fell… it was a little out of my price bracket to just randomly pick up to play, then again the sweet smell of success when Steam (I love you Steam) had one of its amazing sales and I picked up this bad boy for 50% off.

Full disclosure, I never played Mass Effect 1 entirely, I found it very slow. I had previously downloaded the “comic” story you can buy so that you can see the choices you could have made in Mass Effect 1, so like “kill Wrex or nah” etc. I feel like if you killed off Wrex you miss some serious comedy later, but that is my personal opinion.

I think the biggest shock to me was the graphics, to be fair, I never thought the old games were bad cause for their time they were good, but this was a seriously good remastering, the worlds are breathtaking, like the Citadel, which is magnificent. I think for me the best change was the characters, they made them look so incredible with more texturing of their outfits etc (did anyone else notice that they… um… increased Liara’s breasts? She was my love interest, I didn’t just look… stop looking at me) ahem… where was I? Ah yes, I think that the changes made a difference.

The DLCs well I enjoy the characters they added, I thought Zaeed was a little dull, but Kasumi was awesome, the mission with David was a little disturbing, but I helped with that! The Lair of the Shadow Broker was awesome! Finally, onto the one that made me laugh and cry equally Citadel or Shore Leave, I did this just before Priority: Go-Beat-The-Shit-Out-Of-The-Illusive-Mans-Base, that way everyone alive could come and hang out, but I am getting ahead of myself. You start in an apartment (which is boss) you then go to meet with Joker and that is when things go sideways, naturally, with Shepard, you start fighting loads of mercs and meet up with your love interest and start fighting so many of these guys damn. Long story short, it is your clone from when Cerberus rebuilt you! Super mean, but there are some really funny bits in it poking fun at the game, but the final part is the best, there are cute side quests with all your teammates old and new and then you host a party and honestly I found myself laughing out loud at some of the parts.

I think for the DLCs alone this Legendary Edition is fantastic and well worth the buy, Citadel alone is worth it. It was the perfect way to finish off over 100 hours of playing this game. Although, I will say that I actually really miss the game and the characters already, sigh, how long until I replay it with only being a renegade badass… time will tell!

Here are some of my favourite quotes from it, in no particular order:

  • “Throw It Out The Airlock.” – Javik
  • “The Measure Of An Individual Can Be Difficult To Discern By Actions Alone.” – Thane
  • “Nobody Ever Fell In Love Without Being A Little Brave.” – Shepard
  • “Guide This One, Kalahira, And He Will Be A Companion To You As He Was To Me.” – Thane
  • “You Big Stupid Jellyfish!” – Shepard
  • “Does This Unit Have A Soul?” – Legion
  • “Emergency. Induction. Port.” – Tali
  • “I. Am going. To Die” – Hungover Tali
  • “May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.” – Garrus
  • “After time adrift among open stars, among tides of light and to shoals of dust, I will return to where I began.”- Tali’Zorah vas Normandy.

So Mass Effect Legendary gets: 9.8
