Hogwarts Legacy: Revelio!
11 April 2023When I speak about the Star Wars Trilogy, I am referring to the original trilogy. I need to say that out there to start, but that being said I need to be honest I am a ride-or-die Star Wars fan, I cannot think of a movie or series that is “bad”. Yes even the new ones, sorry, I don’t hate them, do I adore them, no. They are no Empire strikes back, but they are not bad in my opinion.
I remember watching them on VHS so many times I could say them word for word. Then when I got older I pre-ordered the blue ray remastered editions from Musica (A South African music store – I miss it already), I had posters, and I have pyjamas – my wife is a lucky lady.
I have made at least 1 person in my family come watch all the ones I could when they come out, I remember coming to England for the first time in 1999 and making my brother watch The Phantom Menace with me. I dragged both of my parents to the first showing of Revenge of the Sith in Cape Town and cried when the inevitable happens. My wife has also been on the receiving end of being dragged to go watch the new movies, although she won’t watch the animated Clone Wars with me. Rude haha.
Back to the Trilogy, I wanted to talk about this because before I took my wife to go watch Rise of the Skywalker, I thought she needed to watch ALL the movies that came before it, which by the way she did not expect at the time. So we started with the original as I thought I could let her experience it the way that I did, easy peasy. Well, let me tell you, dear reader, that watching something like that with someone who has never actually seen it/doesn’t REALLY care about it is a wild ride, cause you end up watching the person and not the movie.
Honestly while writing this I am just sitting here thinking I need to rewatch them haha. But let me briefly tell you what I think, I think New Hope is a fantastic opener of the best trilogy ever; a bit slow, but you get the feeling (from watching the behind-the-scenes) they were concerned it was not going to do well so it could actually be an open and shut movie. The best movie (I would say in my top 3 of all time) is Empire Strikes Back and I like to think that is because of the work done in New Hope by George Lucas in introducing the universe and characters so Ivan Kershner could develop the relationships and my god is this a great movie. Also, we get more Han being Han and most importantly to me, we got more Carrie Fisher. “I love you” and “I know” – gets me every time. Return of the Jedi… is not my fave, there are many parts that I love, but honestly, it was a bit… of a comedown, but I am not sure how anything could really compare to Empire, no one wants to follow that act.
