Dragon Age Absolution: An amazing animation Series that Breathes Life into Thedas (and will tide you over until Dreadwolf)
4 July 2023Honestly, I have been wanting to write a blog about Gaming and ADHD for some time. Something that I have struggled with is ADHD, I was only diagnosed with it when I was about 25 and honestly, it answered a lot of questions I had regarding my motivation etc to study both at school and for a hot moment through UNISA. I have always been into gaming, it is something that has always brought me endless joy, ever since I was a young lass.
It was only after I was diagnosed that I realised something, gaming was helping me, so I did some research into it and by research I mean I read some things and played some games, you know doing some field testing and this is what I found and somethings I kinda knew already:
It helped me enhance my focus and concentration; contrary to popular belief, peeps with ADHD can often concentrate on a lot of things we find fun and engaging – take me as an example – want me to study chemistry? Nah. Want me to sit still and watch a full cricket match uninterrupted? Can do that! I found that while I was playing I was very focused and honestly for quite some time afterwards I was able to get some chores done – cool! That is a tick from me.
I found that gaming helps me with my organisation, take Stardew Valley/Coral Island as an example, I need to remember to save up money or seeds or specific things to unlock other things, I can’t just run around like a bunny. So that helped me mentally, I do occasionally take time out from my normal game choices to play games like those and honestly makes me happy every time.
I am not writing this to say that that it is either a cure or anything like that, I am merely saying what works for me and even then: It doesn’t work all the time. Some people might say that too much gaming also isn’t good for you, I mean I am never going to be a person who says that. Honestly when it comes to ADHD, do what you can. That is what I do.
