Chasing Winter Sun in Lisbon: A Sunny Escape with My Better Half
5 February 2024
The SA20 Season 2 – South African T20 Cricket Tournament
15 March 2024As per tradition, it was our turn to host the Superbowl Party for the San Francisco 29ers vs Kansas City Chiefs Superbowl 2024.
A little back story, a behind-the-scenes if you will, I have been into the NFL since I was about 11 and slowly have gotten my wife into watching and I would say she has been a fan for the best part of three years. The first time my wife and I watched the Superbowl together we watched a bit of the LA Rams vs NE Patriots in 2019, but we were in Lisbon and it was just on while we were drinking and playing cards.
We started a fantasy league with our friends (who are a couple) and during COVID-19 we all watched the Superbowl “together”, we were at our house and they were at theirs due to the lockdown. But we went all out, drinks and wings, made our flags and danced to Shakira and J-Lo. The next year we watched together, and I made shirts with the logos – again went all out. The next year was a big year Eagles vs Chiefs – my friend is an Eagles fan and unfortunately, they lost.
To clarify: I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Kate is a Miami Dolphins fan, Briony is the Eagles fan and Joe (her husband) is a Patriots fan. So, it’s a fun mix all around.
So Superbowl 2024, we hosted at ours and it was such a fun evening, it is always hard in the United Kingdom when the kick-off was at 11:30 PM! Nevertheless, we persisted, we played some beer pong with homemade cocktails, which sounded more dangerous than it was, but just ended up keeping a very good buzz while we waited for the coin toss – which was important. Why was it important? Cause of Superbowl Bingo, a new addition to our usual games, this one everyone had a card and Kate and I had thought of many many many different scenarios to add to it, from Football ones – Flag in the quarters, to halftime show ones – which songs Usher would play, to what Taylor was doing.
We ate hotdogs and nachos, tiramisu for dessert and had espresso martinis when we realised that it was going to overtime (this was at 2:30 am)
I think it is one of the best traditions we have and now I cannot wait till next season.
